Excellent protection for lens. Good construction, and easy to use. Collapses easily, and offers good bumper protection for a long lens. Can extend part way for use on wider angle lenses. Using this on an 18-250 lens, and it works great. Caution on not extending the lens hood fully when in wide angle mode, as lens hood is long and infringes into the frame.

This is made out of real thick rubber and it works perfectly. I love how it easily fits into my camera bag without having to remove it from the lens. I also like how in crowded situations, it takes a bump and bounces back... no harm to the lens or camera. Well worth the price. Only down side is you must pay attention when adding your lens cap to make sure it's on well. Otherwise, it's all positive... looks and works GREAT!

This Opteka 72mm Screw-in Collapsible Rubber Lens Hood sounds like a good idea - as a replacement for the more solid original Nikon lens hood. However it is quite a disappointing product. While as a stand-alone object it is rather well made, it does not function well enough as a lens hood. It tends to slip out of the lens; with Nikon's 18-200mm lens it leads to vignetting (even when it is fully collapsed) - and this is usually not always visible through the lens; this may occur with a certain zoom length, but I have not systematically researched this; lastly when the camera sits on the table the rubber gets squashed and then when you come to use the camera - the hood does not form a regular circle - perhaps contributing to the vignetting effect. I am back to the original hood.

Nice product. Does what it is supposed to do. I like the fact that it is collapsible and does provide some protection to the lens when collapsed or open.

This lens hood is so much better than the old, hard kind that take up way too much space in the carrier and don't get out of the way when they are not needed. This is a nifty improvement on the original.
